Presentation
Located southwest of Montreal, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, this national historic site is home to Canada's first lock canal and the remains of a former military fort. Used for millennia by aboriginal peoples as a portage and camp to bypass the rapids, the site also played a major strategic and commercial role. A signposted circuit and interpretive panels allow visitors to discover almost 7,000 years of history through the remains and landscapes. The self-guided tour invites you to contemplate, stroll and picnic, in a peaceful natural setting marked by the power of the river. The visitor center and sanitary facilities are not accessible.
