Presentation
St. James United Church is one of the city's religious heritage treasures. Being the city's largest Protestant church, it was built in 1889 by Methodist Loyalists who had left New York City in the late 1700s. It remained concealed behind storefronts for 80 years, with only a neon sign indicating its existence. Everything changed in 2006 when a revitalization project revealed its stunning façade, along with a new public square. Admire its spectacular stained-glass rose window, massive towers, gargoyles, and High Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. Inside, enjoy its soaring vaulted ceiling, intricate plasterwork, and the massive pipes of its Casavant organ. The church also houses Le Balcon, offering nightly dinner and entertainment shows.
