Founded in 1817, the Bank of Montréal is the oldest banking institution in the country. The imposing facade of its head office, dating back to 1847, evokes the power of ancient Rome. Redesigned in 1905, the lavish interior echoes the success of this institution. Visitors are welcome to autonomously explore the museum, featuring displays of historical artifacts relating to BMO’s heritage. This includes documents, antique accessories, and photographs, as well as collections of old currency, and our charming assortment of mechanical piggy banks.
